ETH Zurich is strengthening its commitment in the area of public health. This commitment includes scientific and political advisory activities that promote and protect the health of the population. As of January 2025, ETH Zurich will join the Swiss School of Public Health plus (SSPH+) Foundation as a foundation body. The Executive Board has approved the affiliation.
By joining, ETH Zurich can further support its own public health-oriented sciences and the multidisciplinary dialogue between science, politics and the public, and link existing activities even more efficiently. In addition, ETH Zurich's representation on the SSPH+ Foundation Board will give it more weight in the network and more room for manoeuvre in national and international initiatives. This will benefit researchers from several departments, including D-HEST, D-BSSE, D-GESS, D-CHAB and D-INFK.
SSPH+ is the only Swiss-wide academic network focussing on public health and has been in existence since 2005. It promotes university education, research and continuing education in Switzerland and partly abroad. Within the framework of three strategic priorities, the foundation supports education and training in order to attract qualified specialists through cooperation within Switzerland, inter-university research in Switzerland and abroad, and the implementation and distribution of public health science in politics, practice and the public. The Foundation's supporting organisations currently include the Universities of Basel, Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Fribourg, Lucerne, Neuch?tel, Lugano (USI), EPFL and the Bern University of Applied Sciences.

Continuing education in Cyber Security: For digital security
The importance of cyber security is growing. According to the external page Swiss Confederation, cyberattacks on Swiss companies increased by 61 per cent in 2023 alone. The more businesses digitalize, the more potential targets cybercriminals find. The need for well-trained cyber security specialists is correspondingly high.
With this in mind, ETH Zurich has launched a new part-time MAS continuing education programme. The "Master of Advanced Studies ETH in Cyber Security" (Link) provides directly applicable theoretical and practical knowledge about cyber and information security in order to protect computer systems, networks and data from attacks by hackers, viruses or malicious programmes.
Consequently, the ETH Zurich Executive Board approved the regulations for the "MAS ETH Cyber Security" in November 2024 and brought them into force on 1 January 2025. First participants can enroll in the autumn semester 2025. With the MAS, ETH is addressing the growing need for specialists in the field of cyber security.
