Fixed-rate salaries

Doctoral students, postdocs and scientific assistants are usually hired by ETH Zurich on fixed-rate salaries.

ETH Zurich is increasing fixed salaries by a staggered amount in Swiss francs as of 1 January 2025.

Doctoral students

The fixed-rate salary for doctoral students is based on one of the following rates (standard, rate 2, 3, 4 or 5) and are clearly stated in the employment contract. Salary increases occur annually until the third year in the steps specified the table below. No additional increases are made from the fourth year onward.

Scientific assistant I

The fixed-rate salary for scientific assistants I is based on the overview below. These salaries are automatically increased in the specified steps until the third year. From the fourth year onwards, you will no longer receive any salary increases.

Postdoctoral researchers and scientific assistants II  

The fixed-rate salary for postdoctoral researchers and scientific assistants II is based on the overview below. These salaries are automatically increased in the specified steps until the third year. From the fourth year onwards, you will no longer receive any salary increases.

In exceptional cases and depending on the requirements of the funding provider, a lump-sum salary can be agreed instead of a fixed-rate salary. The amount of the salary depends on the funding provider or the project funds and is indicated in the employment contract.
