ETH Global Lecture: The Challenge of Heart Surgery in Sub-Saharan Africa

On 28 November 2014, ETH Global will host a lecture by Prof. Dr. Peter Zilla, MD Head of Chris Barnard Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiovascular Research Unit at the University of Cape Town. He will lecture on the topic of "Tailor-made Innovations Rather than Imported First-World Technologies".

Prof. Dr. Peter Zilla, Head of Chris Barnard Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery (Goote Schuur Hospital and Red Cross Children’s Hospital) and Cardiovascular Research Unit at University of Cape Town

Prof. Dr. Peter Zilla's research focus is in the field of tissue engineering and prosthetic cardiovascular implants, improving heart valve prostheses for young patients of developing countries and rheumatic heart disease.

The introduction to his lecture "The Challenge of Heart Surgery in Sub-Saharan Africa:
Tailor-made Innovations Rather than Imported First-World
Technologies" will be given by Prof. Simon Hoerstrup, University of Zurich and the University Hospital of Zurich.
